Within the modeling software, the user has the ability to check a box for installing High R-value spray foam insulation. When this is chosen the insulation value is higher than what is typically used in a standard 2x4 or 2x6 cavity. The ESR report is triggered for an insulation R-value that is greater than what can typically fit into the stated cavity.
When QII is chosen as a HERS verification, the CF2R-ENV-03 will be triggered and field A07 will ask for a ESR number. The ESR number is a ICC-ES service report number that can be found at:
NOTE: This is the only approved directory for verifying high R-value spray foam.
If QII is NOT triggered as a HERS verification then no form would be triggered as one has never been created for this verification.
In the example below, the CF1R is showing high R-value spray foam as a HERS verification under the HERS feature summary. The CF1R shows 2x4 and R-29, so that is a red flag. This is a building inspector's responsibility, but it will probably also be mentioned in regards to the QII. They must report what was installed, and if it was not a spray foam but it does actually meet the CF1R, then she could report "N/A" but needs to be able to document her claim and that the Bldg Dept may question it.

Roof assembly shows under roof deck insulation and top cord insulation for a total of R-29 in the attic.
